Bath Bomb: Rainbow Worrier

rainbowworrier.jpg Oh, this bomb is pretty old, obtained from an ebay auction over a year ago, no doubt, but I could still smell all the lovely sandalwood for awhile. Each of these comes with a hidden color in the center, and this one had pink. However, it didn’t change the color of the bath water at all. It did make the water a lovely fog, so I could, say, see part of my foot in the water, but not my toes. I was fascinated by watching my hands disappear into and out of the fog, it was almost cinematic! I noticed a bit of paper floating around while I was doing this, and it said: Plan for the future, for planning for the past brings much sorrow. How exactly does one plan for the past?

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Perfume, Bergamot Oil (Citrus bergamia), Vetivert Oil (Vetiveria zizanoides), Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album), Titanium Dioxide, Cocamide DEA, Propylene Glycol. May contain Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), FD&C Red No. 4, FD&C Blue No. 1

The thing about the Rainbow Worrier is that you don’t know until you use it what colour it’s going to turn your bath. It could be blue or yellow or it could be pink. If the unpredictability of the Rainbow Worrier excites you then you probably need one to calm down your natural exuberance. If you are the control freak type who NEEDS TO KNOW in advance whether your bath is going to be blue or yellow or pink then you need one too. Its smoky fragrance of almost excessively calming Easter vetivert and sandalwood wipes worries from furrowed brows. All you have to do is to stay in the bath long enough to relax fully. If you share a home with a worrier, we suggest that you lock them in the bathroom with one of these until they have calmed down enough to stop worrying about being allowed out.

Bath Bomb: Christmas Party

christmasparty.jpg With all the stars in this puppy you can bet I put it in my new giant tea strainer before dunking it in the tub. Some of the irridescent glitter did get out but didn’t cause a problem. I love the smell of this bomb – it reminds me of a blend of orange Fruit Loops and orange Tic Tacs. So, not naturally orangey at all! Once the bomb bubbled out, the scent dissapated and the orange was nearly gone – I think this is where the cognac kicked in, since there was still a nice, vaguely rich smell.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Perfume, Orange Oil (Citrus dulcis), Cognac Oil, Lime Oil (Citrus aurantifolia), Iridescent Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate and Acrylates copolymer), Red Stars (Polyethylene terephthalate, FD&C Yellow No.5, D&C Red No.7, D&C Red No.34), Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), *Limonene, *Linalool, FD&C Red No. 4.

Chrsitmas Party is good for before, after (or even during) a party. It’s got lime and sweet orange to perk you up a bit and soothing cognac essential oil to keep yopu feeling mellow. This year it’s orange and fizzy again, a bit like Buck’s Fizz.

candycane.jpg My first reviewed bubble bar. I believe this was a freebie from the Big Frees last year. Bubble Bar Slices can be divided up into several pieces because they’re so big. I used a third of this one in a nylon under the running tap and it gave me lots of bubbles. I didn’t note the vanilla smell so much – it was a yummy, creamy peppermint, with lots of bubbles all around.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar (Tartaric acid), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Perfume, Cocamide DEA, Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia), D&C Red No. 34

Description: If you get one of these in your stocking, don’t chew on it, no matter how good it smells. Believe us, they do smell good. This is the Creamy Candy Bath dressed up for the party season, sweet as candy and twice as bubbly. Just the bath you need to get you ready to go out and have some fun. It’s scented with delectable vanilla absolute, made from the pod of the exotic vanilla orchid. Whoever invented the phrase ‘plain vanilla’ didn’t know what they were talking about. Vanilla is fabulous.

Bath Bomb: Black Pearl

blackpearl.jpg Aye mateys, I purchased this pearl from a Lush Christmas party and popped it in the bath a few days afterwards, just to see what a bomb was like at full potency. I used the whole thing since it’s about half the size of a normal bomb. It was a little stronger than the others I’d tried. Upon hitting the water the bomb released a grey cloud which shortly turned the water grey, and formed a grey ring around the tub. The surface of the water was beautifully sparkely and, well, oily, and smelled unexpectedly of berries. Inside was a paper fortune (a “pearl of wisdom” if you will) that said something like “Six steps back, seven steps forward” and now I can’t get Paula Abdul out of my head.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Black Sugar (sucrose), Perfume, Lavender Absolute (Lavendula hybrida), Chamomile Oil (Anthemis nobilis), Olibanum Oil (Boswella Carterii), Myrrh Resinoid (Commiphora myrrha), Silver Edible Lustre (Potassium aluminum silicate, Titanium dioxide, Iron oxides and hydroxides), Silver Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate and aluminum powder), *Limonene, *Linalool, Paper Motto

Description: The Black Pearl is a dark, a mysterious Bath Bomb named in honour of Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship in Pirates of the Caribbean. This bath bomb is studded with crystals of sea salt and scented with lavender and blackcurrant. Inside each one there’s a wise saying, a “pearl of wisdom” to enlighten you in your search for treasure.

Bath Bomb: Softy

softy.jpg Softy is an old favorite of lushies that sadly has been discontinued. Again, I wasn’t overly impressed with its scent, the water was clear once it dissolved, and most unfortunately, the rose petals turned slimy almost immediately. They stuck to my body and I tried very carefully to have them all off when I got out. I’ll definitely be socking the other half when I use it. However, the water was very soft and smelled almost of flowery tea…I wonder if Sof-ty is a play on the tea smell. My bathroom and hallway also smelled wonderful today from last night’s bath.

Ingredients:Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Rose Petals (Rosa centifolia), Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata), Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia), Ylang Ylang Petal Oil (Cananga odorata), Lavender Oil (Lavendula hybrida), Orange Essence (Citrus dulcis), Perfume, FD&C Red No. 4

Description: The Softy Ballistic is a true beauty, a soft pink ball packed with real rose petals and flower fragrances. Award yourself a Softy bath when you feel like spoiling yourself rotten but you can’t afford a new pair of shoes. Float in a tub full of rose petals and scent your body with exotic, relaxing ylang ylang, calming lavender and an ample helping of rose perfume, symbolic of love and joy in ancient civilizations and modern ones too, and you can’t help but feel somewhat special. As you relax in the warm, fragrant water repeat after me, ‘I’m special, I am!’

Bath Bomb: Mr. Butterball

mrbutterball.jpg At first I was not impressed by this bomb. There was a pleasant scent as it fizzed away, but it sunk to the bottom of the tub halfway through (this may have to do with the fact that I bought it last Xmas). The water was more moisturizing than the last several baths. As the water cooled, however, I submerged such that my nose was just hanging above the water, and the scent was warm, golden butter, so soothing and relaxing that I actually fell asleep (note: this is dangerous and I do not advise it for anyone). I woke up a few hours later as the bathwater had become lukewarm.

Our Butterball Bath Bomb is one of our most popular ever; this is the Snowman version, scented with calming ylang with a touch of (synthetic) musk. He is flecked with tiny chunks of fairly traded cocoa butter which melt in the warm bath water then moisturize your skin as you touch them.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Synthetic Musk, Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata), Perfume

Bath Bomb: Romance In A Stone

romanceinastone.jpg Very pleasant and flowery scent, much like Summer Blues… in fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was a replacement for that discontinued product. I used the entire bomb because it is small compared to standard Lush bombs (3.1oz vs 6.3 oz). The water was very smooth and clear. I stuck the bomb in a stocking to avoid flower petal carnage, but forgot about the scroll, so I had to dig it out of the trash this morning. It says:

‘They look’d up to the sky, whose floating glow
Spread like a rosy ocean, vast and bright
They gazed upon the glittering sea below
Whence the broad moon rose circling into sight.
They heard the wave’s splash, and the wind so low,
And saw each other’s dark eyes darting light
Into each other – and, beholding this,
Their lips drew near, and clung into a kiss.’
Byron – Don Juan: Canto the Second

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Perfume, Red Rosebud (Rosa centifolia), Aloe Vera Extract (Aloe barbadensis), Orange Blossom (Citrus dulcis), Red Rose Petals (Rosa Centifolia), Sweet Wild Orange Oil (Citrus Dulcis), Mandarin Oil (Citrus nobilis), Tangerine Oil (Citrus reticulata), *Citral, *Limonene, Sonnet Scroll

Description:
This bath bomb is scented with a fragrance of wild oranges; inside is a love poem to say the things you may find yourself stumbling over. We scatter in some rose petals because as symbols go, you can’t do better than roses. *Occurs naturally in essential oils

Bath Bomb: Summer Blues

summerblues.jpg I think the edition I have is from the UK, which is rumored to be much less blue than the US version. Mine was very pale. As this bomb bubbles, tiny bits of flower disperse themselves everywhere, and the water temporarily turns cloudy. I didn’t notice much of a color change to the water at all, but it was sweet and flowery. Afterwards I put down a cover for the drain for all the flowers, though unfortunately this morning I noticed that many had dried (and stuck) to my tub, as flowers are wont to do; when I use the other half I will probably “sock” it in a nylon stocking.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Perfume, Blue Mallow Flowers (Malva sylvestris), Larkspur Flowers (Delphinium consolida), Cornflower Petals (Centaurea cyanus), Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia), Orange Blossom Absolute (Citrus dulcis), Lemongrass Oil (Cymbopogan flexuosus), Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale), Colour 42045.

Description:
Drop this in the bath and you’ll get a blue pond full of three kinds of blue flower petals, scented with soothing rose, calming and reviving orange blossom, relaxing jasmine and lemongrass to lift your spirits. It’s like buying a ticket and hopping on the magic bus to a warm, summer garden. Float in a warm bath of flowers and you’ll discover that the Summer Blues Bath Ballistic is one of the fastest ways to rid yourself of winter miseries.

Bath Bomb: Hot Java

hotjava.jpg Tried this one out after a long workout yesterday. It turned the bath nicely orange/pink and smellled sweet and vaguely spicy. As it bubbled away bits of cinnamon stick went flying everywhere, but they eventually settled at the bottom of the tub. The water was very soft and it moisturized just perfectly – I didn’t feel the need to shower off after I got out of the water. This particular bomb has been discontinued (as have so many things I own) but I still have another half left.

Ingredients:Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Cinnamon Sticks (Cinnamomum cassia), Perfume, Ginger Oil (Zingiber officinale), Cinnamon Powder (Cinnamomum cassia), Ginger Powder (Zingiber officinale), Coriander Oil (Coriandrum sativum), Ginger Absolute (Zingiber officinale), Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata), Juniperberry Oil (Juniperus communis), Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), D&C Red No. 33

Jump into a Hot Java bath every time you need warming up. It’s for cold days . so that’s most of them . or days when you.ve got a cold or when you.ve been out in the cold and need warming up right through. It’s good for when you’re feeling creaky after exercising too. Run a warm bath, drop in the Hot Java and let the spices soak right in. There’s warming ginger oil, warming ginger powder and some warming ginger absolute too. Very warm! Powdered cinnamon is traditionally used to relieve aches, ylang ylang relaxes your muscles and juniper berry oil is said to help relieve stiff joints. A week in the tropics would be lovely but a Hot Java will do nicely.

In the beginning…

I’ve created this as a dedicated blog to all things Lush. Over the past year I’ve created a stockpile of Lush items that I rarely use, and maybe this blog will help motivate me. It’s autumn again and I’m looking forward to using it up in lots of baths. Here’s to happy Lushing!
